Too bad because the views after that were at least 20 times better.Meander Mountain, Washington 6052 feet, 1845 meters This is a Provisional Peak entered by a registered user. I managed to get a few snapshots going up to White Pass (with a small digital camera) before the camera batteries ran out. I like this loop better in this direction versus the counter-clockwise direction described in Don't Waste Your Time in the North Cascades. If you don't like downhills (I hate them) this will be your hardest day. If you're feeling good a sidetrip up Johnson Mountain is relatively short and easy. This will be an easy day, so stop and take a lot of pictures. day 2: PCT to Upper Blue Lake (take the high route). There is a rivulet within 3/4 miles of Indian Pass, so you won't have to carry water very far. If you're still fresh, hike on and dry camp at Indian Pass. Day hike to Red Pass and up White Mountain. day 1: Mackinaw Shelter to the PCT and White Pass basin. It can easily be combined into the day 1 hike up to White Pass. Sauk to Mackinaw Shelter (~5 miles in) or stop at other good campsites before that. day before: leave work early and hike the N.F. How many days are you going to be out? Here is one scenario for doing the loop in 3 days: Not too hot, not too cold, *no bugs at all*, perfect amount cloud cover combined with the bluest skies imaginable, colors as vivid as they could be, peaks and meadows all over the place, not very many people (only ran into one group before Meandering Meadows). Some of the best conditions and scenery I've ever seen. The campers nearby had mules, who were hee-hawing all night.Īlthough I can't recommend Meandering Meadows, the entire area was *awesome* last weekend. You can see the ridge containing Kodak Peak so the views are decent, but not as good as just about everywhere else around that area, where the views are great. The camp was full so I had to camp on what looked like an old horse holding area, complete with very old hay. The camping spots in general were not very good, and since I got in last, I got the worst spot. First, it was a longer detour with a bigger drop from the PCT than I expected, but this shouldn't be a factor for you if you're coming up the Little Wenatchee. In general, I wasn't crazy about the camping area. There is a stream running right through it. Sauk on Saturday, with side trips to Red Pass and up White Mountain, and out Pilot Ridge on Sunday with sidetrips to the old Blue Lake lookout spot, Lower Blue Lake and Johnson Mountain. I stayed at Meandering Meadows on Saturday night - up the N.F.
